PLEASE ATTEND THE PUBLIC FORUM ON AFGHANISTAN/PAKISTAN
April 29, 7:00 pm, Morse Pond School Auditorium

The discussion will be led by Shelagh Foreman, Program Director at
Massachusetts Peace Action and Member of the Afghanistan Working Group of
United for Justice with Peace

Ms. Foreman will present background information on Afghanistan and
Pakistan.  The plan of the Obama administration will be described, along
with alternatives which rely more on regional cooperation, conflict
resolution, and development assistance.  A review of Congressional
responses to the problem will be included.  Approximately half the time
will be reserved for questions and discussion; all viewpoints are welcome.

A draft of our mission statement is:

"To work for enduring peace in the world and within our community."

We are regular attendees at the Peace Vigil at the Post Office on Main Street every Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:00.  Please join the vigil.

Some other actions we have taken or helped with:

1. Passage of Article 42 at the Fall 2007 Town Meeting, which instructed the Town Manager to send a letter to President Bush and our congressional delegation, asking them to set goals for an orderly withdrawal from Iraq, and for the care of our military personnel upon
their return.

2. Establishment of the Peace Rock in Falmouth, which can be seen in Peg Noonan Park.

3. Assistance with an event of support in spring of 2008 for Winter Soldier Two, an effort produced at the national level by Iraq Veterans Against the War.  The local event was organized by Mike Tork and Paul Rifkin.

We are currently planning a discussion of U.S. policy in Afghanistan, on 29 April, 2009.  The main speaker will be Shelagh Foreman, Program Director of Massachusetts Peace Action.

The next public meeting of the group is tentatively planned for the Falmouth Public Library, pending room availability, at 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, 21 April 2009.  Check this web site for the latest information on this meeting and other activities.
